FAQ

Honest answers.

What our containers do. What they don't. No fine print.

Safety & Material

What grade of stainless steel do you use?

True 304 (18/8 Chromium-Nickel) — also known as 18/8 (18% chromium, 8% nickel). This is the standard for food contact materials in hospitals and commercial kitchens worldwide. Every container is stamped SS304.

Is it safe for food?

Yes. True 304 (18/8 Chromium-Nickel) stainless steel complies with UK retained EC 1935/2004 for food contact materials. We commission independent SGS migration testing and SGS chemical composition analysis, both published in full on our Full Disclosure page.

What about nickel? I've heard stainless steel releases nickel.

Our containers are independently migration-tested under hot, acidic conditions — none detected. For context: the nickel ion sometimes associated with 304 steel (Ni²⁺) is the same ion found naturally in cashew nuts, spinach, chocolate, and lentils. We publish our full SGS migration test data so you can see the actual numbers.

Is 304 the best grade for food storage?

For food storage and everyday cooking, yes. 316 (surgical grade) has better corrosion resistance but costs more and provides no meaningful benefit for kitchen use. 201 is cheaper but has lower corrosion resistance. 304 is the proven sweet spot.

Does it contain BPA or other plastics?

No. There is no plastic anywhere in the product — body, lid, or otherwise.

What about the lid? Most "stainless steel" containers have silicone or plastic lids.

Our lid is True 304 (18/8 Chromium-Nickel) stainless steel — same grade as the body. No silicone gasket, no plastic clip, no glass with silicone trim. Nothing synthetic touches your food.

Using the Container

Can I put it on the hob?

Yes. All hob types — gas, electric, ceramic, and induction. Use on low-to-medium heat. Always use oven gloves.

Can I put it in the oven?

Yes. No temperature limit — steel doesn't have a meaningful upper temperature for oven use.

Can I freeze food in it?

Yes. Steel doesn't crack or shatter when frozen, unlike glass. Cool food to room temperature before placing in the freezer.

Can I use it in the microwave?

No. Steel reflects microwaves and will cause sparking. Never place any metal container in a microwave.

Is it leakproof?

The steel lid is shaped to grip the rim and lock on tight — a mechanical friction fit, no gasket, no clips, just steel on steel. Laid flat it stays securely sealed, and it stays put through the fridge, freezer and a packed cupboard. Not fully airtight, so not for carrying liquids loose in a bag — but for home storage it holds firm, and dry food travels fine.

Can I take it to work as a lunch box?

You can, but it's designed for home storage and reheating. The lid stays on, but it won't prevent leaks if tilted in a bag.

Can I cook acidic foods in it?

Yes. Our containers are independently migration-tested under hot, acidic conditions — none detected. Store, reheat and cook at any temperature; the full SGS migration report is published on our site.

Does curry stain it?

No. Stainless steel resists staining and odour absorption. Curry, turmeric, tomato — all wash clean.

Product Details

What sizes are available?

1.0L (19.4 × 12.5 × 7 cm, 237g with lid) and 1.6L (22.4 × 15 × 8 cm, ~309g with lid).

What pack sizes are available?

1.0L: Individual, Three-Pack, Five-Pack. 1.6L: Individual, Two-Pack.

Do they nest?

Yes. Same-size containers stack inside each other. A 1.0L five-pack nests into one stack weighing ~1,185g.

How thick is the steel?

0.8mm. Thick enough for durability, thin enough for efficient heat transfer on the hob.

Care & Cleaning

Is it dishwasher safe?

Yes. Top rack or bottom rack — either works.

How do I clean it by hand?

Warm water, washing up liquid, and a sponge. For stubborn residue, soak in warm soapy water for 10 minutes. Avoid steel wool — it can scratch the surface (scratches don't affect food safety, but they affect appearance).

Will it dent?

Steel can dent if dropped. A dent doesn't affect food safety or function — it's cosmetic. But it won't shatter, crack, or break into pieces. Dents over shatters.
